What is a GEDCOM file?

A GEDCOM file is the most widely recognized file format standard for creating a family tree. Most genealogical programs recognize this format, which allows you to easily move your tree to the genealogical program of your choosing.

Note: A GEDCOM file is a text file, that doesn't include the actual photos but it may contain the links to the photos original location on your computer or family site.
